Guitarist Donovan Mixon came to Chicago in 2010 after an extended sojourn living as an expatriate in the countries of Italy and Turkey. As a freelance performing artist and college professor he performed at jazz festivals – Umbria Jazz, Istanbul Jazz Festival, Ankara Jazz, Monticello Jazz, Jazz In It, and taught at many educational institutions – Berklee College of Music, Central European University -Budapest, Shanghai American School -China, D.A.M.S Bologna, Istanbul Bilgi University. Presently Donovan is firmly on the Chicago scene having performed with the AACM at the 2018 Chicago Jazz Festival and other venues. His new single, It's Been Good, featuring our own Ernie Adams and other prominent Chicago musicians is in production to be released in the fall of 2019. He continues to perform with various groups and as a soloist at local venues and regionally. Some of the Chicago spots where he has performed should be very familiar: the Green Mill (vids on YouTube), Andy’s Jazz Club, Room 43, Elastic and The Serbian Village.
